We are now looking for a System Hardware Architect to join our R&D team in Espoo.

This senior role combines deep hands-on expertise with system-level thinking. You will take ownership of hardware architecture from concept to production, make key architectural and component-level decisions, and work closely with our hardware, FPGA, firmware and software professionals.

What will you be working on?

As System Hardware Architect, you will play a key role in shaping Unigraf’s hardware platforms and their future development.

You will:

• define system and subsystem architectures, interfaces and technical requirements
• take ownership from concept and feasibility through prototyping, verification and production
• make architectural and component-level decisions considering performance, power consumption, cost, reliability, risk and manufacturability
• work with high-speed digital hardware, FPGA/SoC-based platforms and complex embedded systems
• ensure signal integrity, power integrity, EMC, testability and HW/SW interfaces are considered in the overall design
• define bring-up, verification and validation approaches and manage system-level hardware risks
• drive the hardware technology roadmap and evaluate new technologies, components and supplier solutions
• lead design reviews and support and mentor experienced hardware engineers.

The role combines hands-on expertise with system-level ownership and technical leadership. You should enjoy diving into engineering details while also seeing and influencing the bigger picture.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a senior hardware professional with 10+ years of experience in hardware design and development, ideally in demanding product development environments.

We expect you to have:

• a relevant technical degree, preferably M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or similar
• strong hands-on experience in hardware and PCB design, ideally including FPGA-based boards and complex high-speed designs
• solid understanding of digital and analog circuit design, PCB manufacturing, high-speed digital signaling, signal integrity (SI), power integrity (PI), power conversion and EMC
• good knowledge of FPGA and/or SoC technologies, including high-speed transceivers and SerDes
• familiarity with AI-assisted design and development workflows
• a proven track record of taking complex hardware products from concept to production
• experience in technical ownership, design reviews and guiding other engineers
• ability to make sound trade-offs between performance, reliability, cost, schedule and manufacturability
• excellent spoken and written English.

You should also have good knowledge of at least one major technology ecosystem, such as FPGA, SoC, CPU/GPU, PCIe, DisplayPort, HDMI, USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi/BT or MIPI.

Finnish language skills are considered an advantage but are not required.

Nice to have

Experience in one or more of the following is considered an advantage:

• FPGA application design and/or ASIC integration
• manufacturing processes and supply chain
• thermal, mechanical, acoustical or optical design
• software/firmware architectures, state machines and protocols

You do not need to be an expert in every area. What matters is the technical breadth and judgement to understand the system as a whole.

We are now looking for an experienced HDMI Firmware Team Lead to strengthen our R&D team in Espoo. This is a hands-on leadership role where you combine deep embedded expertise with people leadership.

In this key role, you will:

• Lead and develop the HDMI firmware team (1:1s, coaching, performance)
• Own planning and execution of firmware development in collaboration with PMs and Architect
• Break down features, prioritize tasks, and manage backlog
• Drive high-quality engineering practices (code reviews, CI/CD, testing, documentation)
• Make and approve key architectural decisions within your domain
• Identify technical risks early (technical debt, certification, supply chain)
• Act as the main firmware interface toward PMs, Product Owners, HW/FPGA teams and customers

Leadership & Collaboration

• 3+ years of experience as a Team Lead

• Clear communicator who can explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders

Deep Embedded Expertise

• 8+ years of hands-on embedded/firmware development
• Strong C/C++ skills (bare-metal, RTOS, embedded Linux)
• Solid understanding of real-time systems, interrupts, scheduling, and timing analysis
• Experience debugging hardware-software interactions (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, JTAG/SWD, schematics)
• Familiarity with common interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, USB, Ethernet, etc.)
• Experience with modern firmware practices (CI/CD, testing, secure boot, OTA, coding standards)

Considered a Plus

• HDMI, DisplayPort or USB-C expertise
• Altera Nios II experience
• Qt or cross-platform tooling

Want to work hands-on with FPGA technology that sits at the heart of advanced test equipment used by some of the world’s leading technology companies?

We are looking for a Senior FPGA Engineer to join Unigraf’s R&D team in Espoo. In this role, you will develop FPGA-based systems at the core of Unigraf’s advanced test equipment. You will work across the FPGA development lifecycle, from RTL design and integration to simulation, synthesis, debugging and hardware testing.

Working closely with our hardware, firmware and software teams, you will have a direct impact on the performance and capabilities of products used by leading electronics manufacturers worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and integrate new FPGA components and systems
• Add features to third-party IPs
• Integrate RTL components into multiple FPGA platforms
• Debug, maintain, and optimize existing FPGA designs
• Conduct design, simulation, synthesis, and hardware testing
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to technical documentation

The RTL coding languages of choice at Unigraf are Verilog and SystemVerilog.

What We’re Looking For

You have a strong background in FPGA design and are confident in taking designs from concept through simulation and synthesis to fully tested hardware. You are self-motivated, disciplined, and collaborative.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in FPGA design using Verilog and/or VHDL
• Strong understanding of FPGA architecture, digital logic design, Timing Closure, and Clock and Reset Domain Crossing (CDC/RDC)
• Experience with Altera Quartus and/or Xilinx Vivado across the FPGA development flow, including synthesis, simulation, place-and-route, and timing closure
• Experience with common interfaces such as DDR3/4, I2C, SPI, and RS232
• Experience developing testbenches with Modelsim/Questa and debugging FPGA designs using on-chip and laboratory debugging tools
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Would Be a Plus:

• Experience with DisplayPort and HDMI
• Experience with high-speed communication interfaces such as PCIe and USB
• Experience with high-speed FPGA transceivers (PMAs and PCSs)
• Knowledge of general hardware design
• Knowledge of C/C++, bare-metal software, and scripting (bash, TCL, Python)
• Knowledge of Jira and Git

What will you be doing?

As an IT Manager, you will take ownership of Unigraf’s internal IT infrastructure and ensure that its global R&D organization has a reliable environment to work in. You will maintain and develop infrastructure connecting Unigraf’s teams in Finland, India, and Taiwan.

Your responsibilities cover servers, networks and VPN connections, Windows domain environments, access and license management, and internal IT support. You will also drive infrastructure development projects, such as moving backups and storage to cloud services and modernizing existing solutions.

You will solve technical infrastructure challenges, work closely with experienced R&D professionals and Unigraf’s external IT service provider, and have the opportunity to improve how things are done. We hope you are also interested in helping the software team with occasional scripting, automation, and software development depending on your skills and available time.

Practicalities:

This is a full-time and permanent position, and you will be employed directly by Unigraf. The position is based at Unigraf’s office in Matinkylä, Espoo, with an expectation of working on-site at least three days per week, particularly during onboarding. The preferred starting date is as soon as possible.

The initial salary range for this position is approximately 5000-6500 €/month depending on your experience. If your salary expectation falls outside this range, we would still like to hear from you.
