Higher Resolutions

Functional testing and Quality Assurance (QA) in video electronics production line has largely been based on human eye inspection. The level of test automation has traditionally been low, but the increased manufacturing costs and introduction of more complex and higher resolution video standards – such as HDMI2.0 and DisplayPort (DP) 1.2 – are driving investments in test automation. Today automated testing is economically feasible for video electronics manufacturing.

Not Just Pass and Fail

Video is usually only one part of the functionality of the device under testing (DUT). It is hence important that the video test module can be easily integrated within the complete functional test system set up. Required level of automation and available space for test system impact final test configuration. Besides performing the main task of “passing" or "failing” the manufactured DUT, production engineers also need detailed information about the test process. Ability to collect relevant test information for e.g. failure analysis and throughput statistics is important.

The traditional human vision based testing is slow in testing the multitude of features of a a PC or multimedia device.

Production line test need to cover all features of the UUT (unit under test) to make sure that all intended components are operational and properly mounted. At the same time the production line operation time is precious, only tests that are absolutely needed will be performed.

Repetitive

Automated testing is not prone to human fatigue. The test result will be always the same. It is equally precise with small screen sizes and the huge pixel count of modern 4K/UHD displays.
