The Complete USB-C Test Automation Solution: UTC-274 Tester & PTU-240 EPR Power Test Unit

June 11, 2026

For R&D and production environments seeking comprehensive USB-C validation, the UTC-274 and PTU-240 deliver a powerful, seamlessly integrated testing solution. While the UTC-274 operates as a versatile, standalone tester for testing video, audio, DP Alt Mode and standard Power Delivery functionalities, pairing it with the PTU-240 unlocks testing of Extended Power Range (EPR). Together, they provide complete coverage for testing USB-C Type-C sinks and sources.

UTC-274 – 4K USB Type-C® Automation Test Tool

UTC-274 is a test automation tool for testing two USB-C products in production line and R&D environments. UTC-274 features a versatile and reliable way of testing connector pins of the USB-C interface. UTC-274 test coverage includes video, audio, DisplayPort Alternate Mode, Power Delivery 3.1, USB 2.0 & USB 3.2, USB4 mode check and EPR test functionalities. UTC-274 is delivered with an SDK with a set of automatic test script samples and support for Python scripting.

DUT as Command Console

DFP (Downstream Facing Port) DUT can directly control UTC- 274 through SDK, eliminating the need and cost of a control PC in the production line. UTC-274 SDK supports Windows, Linux, and MacOS operating systems.

Comprehensive Test Coverage for USB-C products

Unique Electrical Tests

UTC-274’s Electrical Test can verify whole USB-C connector with a single cable insertion. Electrical Test verifies that all connector pins are properly soldered. With Electrical Test you can make sure that components in the DUT are functional and soldering and assembly of the components is done properly.

DisplayPort Alternate Mode Test

UTC-274 supports DisplayPort 1.4 Reference Sink role which can test input video resolution, frame rate (Hz), pixel clock (MHz) and DP link training status to ensure that the DUT video output meets the expected specifications.

Power Delivery & EPR Test

UTC-274 supports PD 3.1 protocol, capable of providing a maximum power output of 65W (20V/3.25A) when acting as a Power Source and capable of requesting a maximum 15W (5V/3A) load when acting as a Power Sink. UTC-274 also supports latest PD 3.1 EPR (Extended Power Range) functionality, allowing to test maximum 240W (48V/5A) with an EPU (External Power Unit) both as Source and Sink.

USB Enumeration Test

UTC-274 can take on the role of UFP (Upstream Facing Port) which has built-in USB 2.0 and USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps) storage capabilities and also support testing USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) capability by connecting an external USB Storage Device. With the UTC-274 SDK, user could test USB data read and write speed (MB/s).

PTU-240 – 240W USB-C Power Test Unit for testing Extended Power Range (EPR) in USB Type-C ™ sinks and sources

The USB-C Power Test Unit 240W (PTU) is an accessory designed to expand the testing capabilities of the UTC-274 USB-C tester. PTU combines both programmable DC electronic load and power supply functionality in a single compact unit, seamlessly integrating with the UTC-274 to provide comprehensive USB-C power testing solutions.

Advanced PD Protocol Support

Supporting the latest USB Power Delivery 3.1 standards including both Standard Power Range (SPR) and Extended Power Range (EPR) protocols, the unit can function as either a PD source or sink with capabilities up to 48V/5A, delivering a maximum power output of 240W. This comprehensive protocol support ensures compatibility with the newest generation of high-power USB-C devices and enables thorough validation testing of power delivery negotiation, voltage/current profiles, and charging behaviors across the complete USB-C power spectrum.

Automated Testing Integration

When paired with the UTC-274 tester, the USB-C Power Test Unit 240W becomes a powerful solution for automated production line testing through the high-level UTCLibrary API.

This seamless integration enables automated test sequences, test result logging, and pass/fail criteria validation, making it ideal for high-volume manufacturing environments. The comprehensive API provides full programmatic control over all unit functions, allowing test engineers to develop custom test routines, implement statistical process control, and integrate the system into existing automated test equipment (ATE) frameworks for enhanced productivity and consistency in USB-C power testing applications.
