Description
USB Type-C® Automation Test Tool
UTC-274 is a test automation tool for testing two USB-C products simultaneously in production line and R&D environments. It supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode, video up to 4K@60Hz and 8K@30Hz, Power Delivery 3.1, USB 2.0 & USB 3.2, USB4 mode check and EPR test funtionalities.
UTC-274 also features a reliable way of testing connector pins of the USB-C interface. UTC-274 is delivered with an SDK with a set of automatic test script samples and support for Python scripting.
UTC-274 test coverage includes:
- DP Alt Mode, Power Delivery and USB speed
- 2 upstream USB-C test ports for testing 2 DUTs or 2 ports on a DUT with a single test instrument
- Video testing up to 4K@60Hz and 8K@30Hz (4:2:0)
- Internal Power Delivery Sink 15W and Source 65W capability
- USB 2.0, USB 3.2 (5Gbps/10Gbps) enumeration.
- Test USB-C connector pins soldering and assembly quality with a single cable insertion
- High level API for easy integration
- Automated tests for USB-C™
- Extended Power Range (EPR) test up to 240W Source and Sink
- USB4 mode check function
Electrical Tests for Verifying Connector Pins
UTC-274’s Electrical Test can verify whole USB-C connector with a single cable insertion. Electrical Test verifies that all connector pins are properly soldered. With Electrical Test you can make sure that components in the DUT are functional and soldering and assembly of the components is done properly.
DisplayPort Alternate Mode Test
UTC-274 supports DisplayPort 1.4 Reference Sink role which can test input video resolution, frame rate (Hz), pixel clock (MHz) and DP link training status to ensure that the DUT video output meets the expected specifications.
Power Delivery & EPR Test
UTC-274 supports PD 3.1 protocol, capable of providing a maximum power output of 65W (20V/3.25A) when acting as a Power Source and capable of requesting a maximum 15W (5V/3A) load when acting as a Power Sink. UTC-274 also supports latest PD 3.1 EPR (Extended Power Range) functionality, allowing to test maximum 240W (48V/5A) with an EPU (External Power Unit) both as Source and Sink.
USB Enumeration Test
UTC-274 can take on the role of UFP (Upstream Facing Port) which has built-in USB 2.0 and USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps) storage capabilities and also support testing USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) capability by connecting an external USB Storage Device. With the UTC-274 SDK, user could test USB data read and write speed (MB/s).
DUT as Command Console
DFP (Downstream Facing Port) DUT can directly control UTC-274 through SDK, eliminating the need and cost of a control PC in the production line. UTC-274 SDK supports Windows, Linux, and MacOS operating systems.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How many devices can the UTC-274 test simultaneously?
The UTC-274 features two upstream USB-C test ports. This allows operators to test two separate Devices Under Test (DUTs) simultaneously
What is the Unigraf UTC-274 used for?
The UTC-274 is a dedicated test automation tool designed for testing USB-C products in R&D and production line environments. It provides comprehensive test coverage for video, audio, DisplayPort Alternate Mode, Power Delivery 3.1, USB 2.0 & 3.2 data speeds, USB4 mode checks, and electrical connector pin soldering quality.]
What are the Power Delivery (PD) capabilities of the tester?
Internally, the UTC-274 supports PD 3.1 with a maximum power output of 65W (20V/3.25A) as a Power Source and a 15W (5V/3A) load as a Power Sink. It also supports the latest Extended Power Range (EPR) functionality, allowing it to test up to a maximum of 240W (48V/5A) for both Source and Sink when paired with an External Power Unit (sold separately).
How does the UTC-274 verify USB-C pin soldering?
The UTC-274 conducts a Unique Electrical Test that verifies the functionality of all core USB-C interface signals (VBUS, CC1/2, SBU1/2, GND). Through software-based cable flipping, it can verify that all connector pins are properly soldered and assembled with just a single cable insertion, significantly speeding up production line testing.
Does the UTC-274 support DisplayPort Alternate Mode video testing?
Yes. It acts as a DisplayPort 1.4 Reference Sink, capable of testing input video resolutions up to 4K@60Hz and 8K@30Hz (4:2:0). It verifies frame rates, pixel clock (up to 600MHz), and DP link training status to ensure the DUT’s video output meets standard specifications.
Do I need a dedicated control PC to use the UTC-274 in a production line?
No, a dedicated control PC is not required. Thanks to the “DUT as Command Console” feature, a Downstream Facing Port (DFP) DUT can directly control the UTC-274 via the SDK. This eliminates the need and cost of setting up a separate control PC on the factory floor.
What operating systems and scripting languages does the SDK support?
The UTC-274 is delivered with an SDK that includes a high-level Python API and a set of automatic test script samples. The SDK is fully compatible with Windows (10 and 11), Linux, and macOS operating systems.
